Contest Winner(s)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Howdy folks!

The first person to get the correct answer was Pooh. It is in fact a breadbox. However, Biddles also gets a special mention for his calling it  " a closed or locked treat container." Biddles- you and I both know how sad those 6 little words are and you correctly identified why the object makes me so sad.

Congratulations Pooh and Biddles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!

A Contest

The following is a picture of an object that makes me very, very, very sad.

What is the object and why does it make me look like I do in  this picture?

Can you get much sadder?

Here's a hint: Look at the way I categorized the post...

Leave a comment*** with your guess as to what the object is and why it makes me sad. The first person to get it right will be recognized on the blog. That should be more than enough fame and glory for most people!  I'll take guesses for a week or so. NOTE: Kanga, Owl, Tigger, and Roo are excluded from this. Why? Because they know the answer already.

*** You'll have to visit the blog if you read the posts in your email in order to leave a comment. If you can't figure out how to leave a comment and you know my contact information you can let me know your guess some other way if you want.

Detective Rosie Takes A Case

Yesterday the great detective and her humans were taking a walk through the woods when Tigger said, " Huh. That's interesting- look at those tracks. There's blood."

Roo replied,"Tigger those are just berries in the snow. You always see those." Detective Rosie sniffed the tracks and the red spots that followed along the tracks. Nope, those red spots were definitely not berries!

"That's blood alright," said Owl, confirming the great detective and Tigger's suspicions. Sure enough the set of deer tracks had spots of blood with almost every print. Owl bravely followed the tracks away from the trail while the girls and the great detective looked at the tracks by the trail. Owl reported that the amount of blood seemed to be increasing as the tracks went along. The the tracks crossed the trail again later, but the great detective didn't see the deer. However, she did come up with a plausible explanation for what happened to the deer. What do you think the great detective's theory is?

The great detective thinks that a hunter shot the deer but didn't quite manage to kill it. This is because there have been hunters (illegally) in the woods of late. The great detective is upset thinking about the hurt deer and hopes that it doesn't have to suffer too long, even though the detective really dislikes deer in general.

Woo Hoo!!!

Hiya Folks!  It's been a MAGNIFICENT day!  We have SNOW.  There about 8 cm of snow on the ground.  I'm going metric here because 8cm sounds like a lot more than 3 inches, and I like LOTS and LOTS of SNOW.  (SNOW is a lot like FOOD in that way - the more the better!!!)  This morning I got up very early and helped Tigger and Owl clear the driveway so Kanga could drive off to work.  Then I had a nice walk and a big breakfast.  This afternoon, I took Tigs, Roo and Owl on a nice long walk through the woods.  There was a lot of snow in the woods.  Now I'm relaxing before dinner.  I just love it when it snows - I can run and romp and play, and the humans usually give me extra food.  Did I mention that, like snow, the more food the better?

Here are some photos of me.  Note my MOE bandana!

Happiness...

IT SNOWED LAST NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!The beautiful, happy, snowy time is back.

Here are some pictures of this morning. Blogger won't let me upload any pictures. I'm going to go back out into the wonderfulness and will try to post later.

Being silly

Well, the technical difficulties of this morning are over. The camera battery fell out of the charger and was lying under the dish drying rack. So now instead of having to content yourselves with videos of other bernies, you can gaze at pictures of me. :)

These are from Wednesday night and the humans (well, only Kanga and Tigger) were being silly and messing around with me and my blanket.
There's a blanket on my head!

Nobody would ever suspect that beneath the innocent loon blanket lurks...

...a big Bernese Mountain dog!!!!!

Big yawn, followed by licking my lips.

I'm tired! Having Miss J and Miss J the first over was exhausting!

Tigger petting me.

I'm sleepy and the light was getting  in my eyes, so I'll just hide them under the blanket.

This was going to be a post with pictures of me...

Well, I was going to post pictures of me and the humans being silly, but my technical specialist (Tigger) is having technical difficulties with the camera battery, or rather the lack of the camera battery. If anyone in the family knows where it is- she left it in the charger in the kitchen plugged in yesterday morning and the charger is plugged in but the battery is not there and is not in the camera either- Tigs and I would be most appreciative of being told where it is so that we can post pictures of me.

So that you can get a healthy dose of Bernie cuteness, here are a couple of videos. (I'm not sure if these work if you're reading the posts in your email. )

This dog is nuts. It is surfing. Yikes!

Poll time!

I decided to see who reads my blog. Soooo, look in the right hand side of the blog for a poll in the sidebar.

(If you read my posts in your email (Hi Grams!:) and you want to vote in the poll, you have to click on the title of the blog in the email to come to the actual blog and you can vote. )

This n' that

Howdy folks! There's lots for me to update you on.

1.) Miss J and Mr. J the older version came by today for a few hours. I was soooo excited that they were coming but then they realized that they weren't used to big, friendly dogs like me, so I got put in the powder room for part of the time they were here. Then I got put in the kitchen and they played in the playroom with the Roo. Maybe next time they'll want to play with me!

2. Here is a neat video to watch. Owl goes to this place a lot. I wish I had a mountain like that!

3. My bed just was not in the right position tonight and I had to spend a lot of time scratching at it and trying to adjust the stuffing in it into the proper shape.
It took a lot of effort, but I finally got it just right.

4. The weather has been very warm. Where is the beautiful snowy time?

WWFN,
This was from the beautiful snowy time last year. I am down by the stream getting ready to jump in. Unfortunately, the humans wouldn't let me jump in the stream. Don't know why...

Busyness

Quiz time! Choose the letter next to the answer that  is the best choice.

Question: How can it have been a whole week since I posted?

Answers:
a.) THe humans have not been good about helping me blog.
b.) I have been one busy dog.
c.) Nothing interesting has happened for me to blog about.
d.) None of the above.
e.) a and b
f.) All of the above

Well, read the post to find out the correct answer!

I's been pretty busy of late. In the evenings I've been walking the humans after Tigs gets home from work. Did you know that I carry the flashlight in my mouth? I am quite talented at carrying things like that! Last night it was very foggy at ground level, but there wasn't a cloud in the sky and the stars were really bright. I got a special surprise too because Daddy had been on a business trip and came home yesterday and he drove by us on the walk and stopped and I got to take a ride home. (By the way Daddy, start looking for an appropriate mountain next time you go there, please! Remember, lots of snow and herds of deer to chase are musts!) I was a little surprised though when I got in the car with Daddy and drove off and Kanga and the girls kept on walking... We played lots though, Daddy and me, when we got home and I had to lick him lots to welcome him back to the fold.

The family has not been very good about helping me blog of late. *TSK! TSK!* I think it has something to do with the Roo getting back into the swing of school and the Tigs working. I'm not sure what Kanga and Owl will attempt to use as excuses though.

Oh, Grams came over last Saturday for  Christmas. She'd been sick on the 25th so we celebrated with her on the 7th of January. It was lots of fun and I enjoyed having her come over. I hear that on Wednesday some of my Little Cousins are coming. Woooo Hoooo! I'm so excited!

The weather has been most decidely not to my tastes. Yesterday it was RAINING! Ugh. I am not a fan of rain in January. It's supposed to snow, people, not rain in January. Also it has been far, far, far too warm of late. Last Saturday it was 65 and I got a bath. Ick!!!!!!! Today is very windy and the wind coming through the trees and around the house sort of sounds like a lion roaring very, very, very loudly. I am not a fan of wind gusts up to 46 mph. Unless it's that windy while it's snowing, that is!

Well, folks, that's all the news from Lake Dogbebone!

WWFN,

Rosie

Some of the beautiful, happy, snowy time from last year. *Sigh* I want it to snow.

P.S. Figured out yet that the correct answer is e?

In Which My True Identity Is Revealed

Roo says: Just so you know, if you' re not familiar with  the Hobbit/ LOTR, you may find this post a bit confusing. :) Love, Roo
Your honor, members of the jury, good morning. I would now like to present the evidence as to my real identity.
Because certain members of the family *cough* Tigger *cough* have been remiss in getting Roo books on CD from the library lately, at lunch today she was listening to the Lord of the Rings.  And then I realized something- I am not a dog. I am a hobbit.
Let's think about it- here are some symptoms of hobbit-dom, and I think they all apply to me.
Hobbits...
Like to eat. Um, have you read my blog or met me in real life?!  OF COURSE I like food!
Have furry feet. Check. Ok, so I call them paws, but, as Grandma would say, same difference
Like to eat. Did someone say food? Where? I'm hungry! It's been a whole 15 minutes since my late early mid- afternoon snack!
Are about half as tall as humans.  Depending on where you measure me, and the human, Check.
Like to eat. Food? Food? Sayest thou food? But showeth me where 'tis, and I shall hie me hence!
Like their home comforts (don't be tricked by Bilbo, Frodo, Merry and Pippin- they are described as being considered crazy for their penchant for adventure). There's nothing I like more than curling up with my blanket and a milkbone while watching a movie with the family.
Like to eat.  *Sings* FOOOOD GLORIOUS FOOOOOOD!!!!!!!!!!!
Are afraid of heights: Hmmm- I don't like fireworks, thunder, or strong wind.  That's totally the same as being afraid of heights, right??? RIGHT???
Like to eat. Oh food dish, to what shall I compare thee?
Like to talk.  I blog. Enough said.
LIKE TO EAT. My food is like a red, red rose, that's newly sprung in June.  My dish is like the melody sweetly played in tune.
OH, and did I mention HOBBITS LIKE TO EAT!   In scarlet town where I was born, there was a food dish dwellin'. Fed a sweet girl two times a day, it's name was Rosie's food dish.

What evidence do you have that I am not a hobbit.  If the evidence that I am a hobbit is more convincing than that that I NOT a hobbit, even by only a featherweight, you must find me to be a hobbit.  It's the law AND how our legal system works. :)
I rest my case.
WWFN!
Love,
ROSIE

What I did today....

Today we broke the trend this winter of having really warm blazingly hot (in the upper forties and fifties!) that we've had this winter.  When I woke up the weather was positively balmy!

14.5 degrees Farenheit It was down to 14.2 by about 8, but it made it into the mid- to- high 20's
I spent much of the morning schnoozing on my warm, cozy bed, while Roo did schoolwork.  It was just the 2 of us today, 'cause everyone else was at work.
At lunch, Roo pulled a bunch of bread products (guess where this is going...) out of the microwave, so she could heat something up.  This included: a (ziploc-ed shut) bag of tortillas, a brand- new loaf of banana bread wrapped in waxed paper in a plastic bag, a tupperware container of banana chocolate chip muffins, and the last slice of vasilopita.  Roo took me out, and, promising me a good game of soccer or "find it" (I'll explain in another post), went across the street to take out Mr. C, a sweet, venerable golden retriever.  Roo returned to find me in the play room with the tortilla bag in shreds, with no evidence of any tortillas anywhere, bits of foil strewn everywhere- and no trace of vasilopita, and the banana bread in two pieces, both with large hunks missing.  Oh, and the container of muffins was upside down on the floor.
Roo got mad at me, and made me look in her eyes while she lectured me.  She also said we couldn't play until later.
While she was doing the dishes she saw some deer.  Usually the humans view deer as a nuisance, but she thought that one looked like Pooh's bear, Buffy, and another one looked JUST like Rudolph in the Christmas special.
Buffy
The Deer

Later, Roo played soccer with me.  I haven't gotten a real dinner, but Tiggy gave me a cookie as a bedtime snack.  She says I'm not acting hungry, anyway.

In Which I Get My Dinner Most Exceedingly Late Indeed

Tigger came home from work tonight to a Most Sad Dog. Being a good and loving Tigger she wanted to know why I was a Most Sad Dog. Well, it was because Kanga and I were not on good terms because of a slight difference of opinion, you'll see what we disagreed on. This sort of thing always puts a Most Wonderful Dog like myself out of humor. There is nothing that a peacable Bernie like myself dislikes more than one of these annoying little differences of opinion. I'll tell you the whole tale so you can see what I mean by "a slight difference in opinion."

It all starts out with the 3 older humans leaving me today to go to work, abandoning Roo and I. This normally wouldn't be so bad, except that Roo is taking care of my pal Cody who lives across the street. That and it was lovely weather today that always makes me extra hungry (It was 14.5 oF when I went out this morning. Balmy, absolutely balmy I tell you. But that's another post in itself...). Anyway, I digress. Roo went across the street and I was hungry. There was no one to give me a snack, so I took one for myself. The Lord helps those who help themselves, if you know what I mean. I ate 3 tortillas, the remains of the vasilopita, and half a loaf of banana bread, all in about 5 minutes. 5 minutes of bliss, I tell you! Anyway, for some reason the humans didn't see it as me saving them the trouble of fixing me a snack... Don't know why.

Anyway, fast forward a couple of hours to when Kanga had come home and the Roo went off to work. Kanga was upstairs and heard some noises downstairs that she thought that she shouldn't be hearing. So she came down to find me attempting to snack on a box of tea bags. She got mad at me and yelled at me, and my feelings were most hurt. So, that is our difference of opinion. (Now Kanga says that she was upset too because tea could make me sick, so that was nice of her to be concerned about my health, but still my feelings were hurt.)

Oh, and about the title of the post. It is a full HOUR AND A HALF past my dinner time and dinner has yet to appear, although Tigs has mentioned that it will be coming shortly.

Vasilopita

Today, January 1st, is the feast day of St. Basil the Great.  To celebrate it, Kanga made a vasilopita, which is a sweet bread with a coin baked in it.  We do this because St. Basil used to give the poor coins baked into sweet breads.
You were revealed as the sure foundation of the Church,
granting all mankind a lordship which cannot be taken away,
sealing it with your precepts,
venerable Basil, revealer of heaven.

It was very yummy!!

Happy Nameday, Daddy!

Rosie
