Yesterday, we were somewhat distressed to see our next door neighbors digging a hole in their backyard and acting somewhat emotional. We were worried about the three doggies next door, especially since Miss Charlotte is somewhat elderly. Today however, Roo heard Mrs. J next door calling for Miss Charlotte, so we knew she's ok. This evening, Owl went to talk to the neighbors on the other side of Mrs. J to apologize for my behavior (I'll get to that in my next post), and learned what the funeral was for:

People keep these things in their houses on purpose?!!

Their adult daughter's pet snake had died, probably as a result of hypothermia from being without heat due to power outages. We were very relieved to hear that it wasn't one of the dogs (BTW, I hope you know that y'all gave me a heart attack at dinner last night, pondering "who had died next door" since I had heard nothing of all this brou-ha-ha previously. ~Roo)

The day after

Well peeps, it looks like we made it through! We lost power about 1 am and it cam back about 10-15 minutes ago. Record time for us to get it back in a big outage!

I went out and surveyed the damage this morning. Two trees are down in our woods, but they thankfully fell between the other trees and kept from causing a chain reaction of falling trees. It's still raining and a little breezy this morning.


I'm a tired out puppy though and will probably be spending a lot of the day snoozing.

Liveblogging Hurricane Sandy

I was trying to start this earlier, but the internet wasn't cooperating. Gee, I can't imagine why.

Anyway, the wind and rain have definitely been picking up throughout the day.

I went out about 9:30 this am to do, well, a dog's personal needs, and got very wet. I was not amused.  I had to take a big nap afterwards to dry out.


At about 11:30 am or so the news people announced that Kanga's hospital was without power already. She's glad to not be working today and tomorrow. :) Owl is off work, and Tigger is off school as well. I've been busy helping them both with homework and work.

The current forecast.

The mail did come today. Neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow, nor hurricanes shall stop the USPS!
Hard to see, but the great Lake Superior is forming in the front yard.
Hard to really get a good picture of how windy it is, but this shows it a little bit.

Tigger is about to take me out to attend to my dogish needs. Not looking forward to getting wet!!!!!

Just back from going outside. ICKY!!!!!!! I GOT VERY WET!!! From only a few minutes outside. Owl is getting ready to call Aunt J-Dog who lives in NYC to find out how things are going there. For Irene her comment was "I've got plenty of wine and cat food so I'm fine."

Sandy is about 50 miles from land.  It's raining a little harder, and the wind is still increasing.  I'm waiting on my dinner. There's a decent sized branch down in the front yard and Lake Superior is filling up.

The electricity has started flickering again. Strong gusts seem more frequent.

We're hearing some big stuff fall right by us. Tigs wants to move to the basement.  Of course, when stuff isn't falling, it doesn't sound very windy. We're watching North and South, a very good BBC mini-series, on DVD. The girls are playing "what else was that actor/ actress in" with a fair amount of success.

The wind is pretty calm now, and we haven't heard anything fall recently.

I don't hear anything outside, and haven't for a while. According to the NOAA, it looks like the worst is over. North and South just ended. Kanga was right that they would get engaged- not that the fact that she's seen it before would help her predict that- she said she could tell because he was mean to her. :)

Tigger here disagreeing with Rosie's statement that the NOAA indicates the worst is over. According to their hour-by-hour windspeed chart, we haven't reached peak gusts yet and should be at peak gusts from about now until 2am.

More Autumnal Walk Pictures

Here we go again!

You may remember if you were reading this blog back in the first couple of weeks of its existence me writing about Hurricane Irene. (You can find  those posts here, here, and here.)Well peeps, it looks like another one of those big pesky storms is headed our way! Time for some more cute pictures of me wearing a rain hat, power outages, and lots of wind and rain. I am not a fan of either the wind or the rain.
This was from Irene last August. It's not nearly as green out there right now. I'll try to get another picture like this later today.

Today I have lots to do to get ready for the storm. I'm going to take the humans on a long walk so they don't get too destructive while we're cooped up during the storm. I'm going to go get some kibble and move things off the back porch. I might do some more raking, and I've been doing lots of laundry so that the humans will have clean clothes if the power is off for a long time.

Better rest up today...

You see, Kanga and Owl are coming home today. Oh, you didn't know they were away? Well, they were gone for a week visiting the Celeries* and left me in charge. At least that's what I say. There have been conflicting opinions on that...

* That would be why we have been receiving vaguely close to adequate photo coverage of Baby Celery.

Anyway, this pooch misses her parents and needs to rest up so she can jump all over them and let them know how much she missed them. (Seriously, Rosie gets lonesome for them when they're at work all day, so how's she's managed to put up with both of them being gone for a week is beyond me- Tigger)

Proof computers are dumber than people

We both know that people are not as intelligent as dogs. Keep in mind, who feeds whom? But , the jury had been out on computers v. people. Until today. Tigger was getting ready to put some music on for dinner time. Well. she scrolled through the music that Roo had put on the computer and stopped short. "ROOOOOOO?????????????????" WHAT ON EARTH IS THIS??????????????" She yodeled, being confronted with a CD listed as "PatMcCurdy Sound of Music Comedy Unknown Year." Not too bad, eh? Until you realize the names of the songs. She was confronted with

Canine Heroes




I was about to post some pictures of me goofing off with the family, when Roo saw this post. DOGGIE HEROES FTW!!!!!!!!!!

A 10-year-old boy with Down syndrome reported missing in Hackleburg, Ala., on Tuesday was found on Wednesday morning along a creek near his home with a pair of puppies that rescue workers believe kept him warm overnight.
The boy, Kyle Camp, went missing Tuesday afternoon, his family said. Police, firefighters and as many as 150 volunteers launched an air-and-ground search that lasted well into the night, covering several square miles, Marion County Sheriff's Dept. officials said, and resumed early Wednesday morning.
Jamie Swinney, one of the volunteers, told WAFF-TV that he followed the Camp family's dog along the creek and discovered the boy in thick with the dog's two puppies at about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.
"I heard the dogs barking again and followed him down there and started hollering for the puppies and I hollered for him and he hollered back," Swinney said. "He was in the creek about a half a mile over the ridge."
According to WAFF, the boy was found wet and without shoes, and officials "think the puppies kept him warm overnight."
The boy was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital and was released.

Baby and Mr. and Miss Celery

I just got this picture of my favorite nephew with Mr. Celery. Clearly, he's already a dedicated Rocks fan. With this newest generation, world domination is within our grasp. muwahahahahahahahahaha


Well, that accounts for the baby and Mr. Celery in the post title, but WHO is this Miss Celery?!! Oh, Roo says it's "miscellany" not "miss celery".
Anyway, I'm feeling much better, thanks to my medicines. Just to clarify, since one or two of you were confused about this, I do get full meals with my medicine. I'm not trying to survive off of cheeseblocks. :)

MORE cheeseblocks

So, yesterday I seemed a lot better than I had been Friday and Saturday.  This morning, however, I relapsed. So Owl took me to the vet. The vet decided that either I have a messed up spinal disk, or have inflamation, or an infectious inflamation, so they put me on pain medicine, anti-inflammatory, and a N-SAID.
Are you ready for my new medicine and food schedule. I like the fact that I get 3 meals a day now.
6AM- Acidophilus for my tummy, so I hopefully won't get an upset stomach.
7AM- BREAKFAST! antibiotic, muscle relaxant, pain medicine
2PM- Acidophilus
3PM- DINNER!! anti-biotic, muscle relaxant, pain medicine, N-SAID
11PM- snack, anti-inflammatory

Cheeseblocks!!!!!!!!!!

WooHoo! The vet said that I need cheeseblocks!!!!!! My Lyme's appears to be acting up again and that means cheeseblocks! 4 times a day! Because the funny little crunchy things inside the magic cheeseblocks upset my tummy I have to take tummy medicine, which is another set of cheese blocks, (Ed.'s note: She just takes a normal OTC human acid controller.) an hour before my meal and magic cheeseblocks. Since I eat twice a day and get the magic cheese blocks twice a day, this means I get 4 cheeseblocks a day!!!!! Yipppeeeeee!!!!!!! It's going to be a great month!!!!!!!!

Sick:(

I'm not feeling well today. The family isn't sure what's up, but I'm very draggy and mopey, and I haven't been begging. Those of you who have ever eaten here know what that means. :) Roo's thinking maybe it's my lymes acting up, because I'm kinda stiff and limpy.  On the bright side, I'm not sick enough to refuse treats.:)

Once again, the family had pork for dinner. I was, naturally, greatly distressed by this, because, as the founder of the The Pigs Are Our Brothers foundation, I abhor the consumption of these animals*. Once again, I am going to share my protest song. Please sing it wherever pork is sold.

A Lab Named Dory Strikes Again

So, you may remember this post about a certain pesky lab who's trying to steal my Tigger away from me.  There are new developments regarding her.
Now, you see, Roo is also doing Chemistry this year, and she has some experiments she has to do. So Owl set up a chem lab area in the basement.

I had the brilliant idea that if Roo can do experimental chemistry in the basement, so can Tigger. And then she could do what she loves without visiting Dory.
But then, something distressing happened. Owl and Roo were doing chemistry experiments in the basement, and they came up with a folded up paper addressed to Tigger, and noted as a secret message. It also had the instructions to "1. Unfold 2. Blow with hairdryer."
So, Tigger came home, and followed the instructions.
This is what she saw:
It says "Rosie is the best. ~Dory"
DORY IS NOW LIVING IN OUR BASEMENT!! TIGGER, HOW DID YOU SNEAK HER PAST ME?!!!!!!!!!
