A Fun Walk

Tiggy and Roo, but mostly Tiggy, are taking care of my pal Frisco.  I raised Frisco from a young pup.  Because Frisco's mommy works, Tigger had to take him out at lunch everyday when he was a little baby. I used to play with him, but then he got too rough for me, so I had to stop.
Yesterday and today he and I went on walks in the woods together. Yesterday just Tigger and Roo came, but Daddy joined use today. Here are some pictures of our adventure!

We had lots of fun!!!!!!

LOVE,
ROSIE!!!
PS. Sorry the formatting is strange. The internet seems to be mad at Roo today. :)

Some of my friends and neighbors

Call me Ishma-Rose. (Name that book!) Sorry. I couldn't think of a spectacular way to start this post, and the original of that is supposed to be one of the most famous opening lines in English literature (English as in written in the English language- Roo is 95% certain that Herman Melville was American. He was [at least according to that great fount of wisdom, Wikipedia{and no, I do not think that wikipedia is reliable.}:)]. :)).  Did you like my beautiful use of parentheses?
ANYWAY......... Now that Roo has skilfully made you forget what this post is even about..... I love my friends and neighbors.  They include:
Mrs. J. lives next door. I adore her, and she loves me.  I also love her dogs, Miss Charlotte and Tia. They're very small compared to me. :)  I went over to see her, and I got very excited. I jumped, and I rolled and flipped in a pile of leaves. I just couldn't control myself!
Then there are Eowyn, Eomer, and their little brother Fili are also great pals of mine. Eowyn is about 6, Eomer is 4, and Fili is 1 or 2.  They love me, and I love them.
Further down the street live my golden retriever pal Shay, and her kids.  James is 6 ish, Albus about 4, and Lily is 2, I think. Kids these days! They grow up so fast!
On Eowyn, Eomer, and Fili's street lives my good pal Lucy, who's 7 or 8, and  her older brothers Peter and Edmund, who are twins, and her little sister Susan. * Lucy likes to give my family advice on how to take care of me. They have 2 cute little Jack Russells.
Several houses down from them live Merry and Pippin. They are brothers who are 5 or 6 and 2 or 3. I love seeing them. They're a little scared of me (especially Pippin), but their mommy loves me.
I hope you enjoyed meeting some of my friends and neighbors (why is Roo singing "It's a wonderful day in the neighborhood, a wonderful day to be a neighbor...."?!?!?!?).
I don't have many picture of me with them, but here's a good one of me. I'm enjoying a treat that Mrs. J. gave me. :)

Love,
Rosie
*Yes, I know Susan is older than Lucy in Narnia, but this little girl is much more like Lucy than Susan.

Flowers, flowers, flowers!

As a flower myself, I take great interest in those that grow outside. Warning! LOTS of pictures in this post.

Forscythia. Not the biggest one around, but the easiest to find and photograph!

In the garden. Not sure what this is. Kanga?

Daffodils.

Hey! Those aren;t flowers. Those are trees. Really big ones too.
Kanga's favorite tree by Roo's window.

More daffordils. They come in a wide variety of colors.

Bleeding hearts. Also, it looks like there's a bloodroot (???) in the foreground, and hasta sprouts too.

Japanese maple tree coming out in leaves.

A gorgeous rose...

Daffo-down-dillys.

See above.

The Lent rose in FULL bloom.

More trees. These things are TALL. Think 100+/- feet.

Yours truly.

Virginia bluebells starting to bloom.

My little spinning flower that moves in the wind. Recognize it Grams?

Kanga is sprouting lettuce.
Beautifully leafing trees. Usually they don't come out for about another month.

What Owl does for fun on a Sunday afternoon part 2

Hey Owl! What are you doing?

"Hey Rosie! I'm fixing the garage door."

Hey Tigger! I told you to delete this picture...

Supervising Owl. My leash tastes good!

Look at Owl go with that drill. Nice socks by the way.

Owl decided to fix the garage door today. Notice that he's wearing the same shirt as he was when he fixed the pipe. That must be his Handy-Dandy Handy Owl shirt. Don't forget that he's available for hire. Payments can be made to me in the form of milkbones...

The One Good Thing...

The one good thing about warm weather is that the humans open the front door so I can look out to watch the world go by. I love this. I get to see my friends and greet them (She means woof very loudly for a long time. ~Ed.).  I love watching squirrels scamper across the yard, and the flowers are *almost* as pretty as I am.  I guess the other good thing about spring is that since it stays light later, I can take the family for walks in the evening, which I enjoy doing.   Well, some of the time I enjoy it.  Of course, if I walk more, then I need more *bursts into song* FOOOD, GLORIOUS FOOOO-OOOOOOOOD! FO-OOD GLO-ORIOUS FOOO-OOOOO-OOOO-OOOOOOOD!!!!!!!!!!
Streams are very interesting and somewhat spring-y. :)

Since it's Spring, I'm starting to give up hope that we'll get snow this season.  I am very disgruntled by this.  As my personal play write penned, Now is the winter of our discontent, made glorious summer by these suns of spring.  ~ Wilma Shakespeare*, in her famous play Rosie III.
In other news, my cousin S. just got a cool internship on an island off of Washington state, doing something with reptiles. I don't like reptiles, but he does. Congratulations, cousin S., and I hope you have fun!
WWFN,
Rosie III (Actually, I don't know why I'm Rosie III, since there aren't ANY Rosies before me, but Wilma told me I am, so I must be.:) )
*Roo would like you to know that doesn't really know why she keeps referencing various things from Writing Club. She guesses that it is just because they're as awesome as the organization from which they sprang. :)

Neat Pictures

Here are a few miscellaneous slide shows of pictures.

Here are pictures of the Northern Light associated with the recent solar storm, and some pictures (REALLY neat pictures) of the sun erupting.
http://news.yahoo.com/photos/major-solar-storm-headed-to-earth-slideshow/

Here are some ADORABLE pictures of twin polar cubs on their first public outing. Almost as cute as bernese mountain dog puppies.

http://news.yahoo.com/photos/polar-bears-greet-spring-slideshow/

Finally, some interesting pictures of a different sort. They make the humans think of Grandaddy's pictures from essentially the same time in history.

Spring Has Sprung

Dear All,
Happy Spring! Enjoy the flowers, even though it's much too warm.
Me sitting in flowers, about 2 years ago. I took a big print of this picture to my Grandaddy when he was in the hospital for the last time.  He showed it off to the nurses. I miss him. :(

I like looking at flowers. There are a lot blooming right now.  Daffodils, and crocuses, and some pretty little blue flowers, blood root anemone, lent roses, and more! It's the 4th weeks of Lent, and I'm starting to look forward to Pascha (Easter).  True, Holy Week isn't much fun for me, because the humans are at church all the time. :| But I enjoy getting to eat lots of  yummy stuff on Pascha, especially this sweet, really rich cheese spread, called cheese paska. :) Unfortunately, I can't eat our Easter bread, because it has dried fruit, which is bad for puppy dogs. The humans also tend to eat ham on Pascha, and I'm allergic to ham. Maybe they should go Greek this year, and have lamb.
Sadly, Tiggy is back at school after spring break. I miss her.  Roo no longer has robots on Saturday mornings, but she still has Monday meetings. I like this arrangement. I get Roo and Daddy on Saturdays, and I still get to take rides on Mondays.
WWFN!

ROSIE!!!

Literature Quiz #3

Here I am with the answers to the latest quiz. Everyone knew the author of the first quote. It was by CS Lewis, and it was from The Last Battle. So only Wol was 100% accurate.
The second quote was more challenging. Only Owl was anywhere near right. He had the author and the story right, but he neglected to mention that the title of the book from which it was taken is All Things Bright and Beautiful.
Time for quiz numero tres. Roo will be very surprised if Tigger doesn't at least know the author for this one.
"Several pounds of excitable St. Bernard puppy flung against her proved too much for Jo, and she sat down violently on the wet grass."

Rosie

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DR. CELERY!!!!!!!!!!

To my very favorite brother: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're the very best brother I have and I love you lots!!!!!!!!!

I am second from the right, and Dr. Celery is third from the right. Dr. Celery, we need some more bloggable pictures of you and I together.

XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXXOXOXOXOOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOX,

ROSIE

P.S. I'm am soooooooooo sorry that this is 5 days late. :( I is  very embarrassed that it is late.

What Owl does for fun on a Sunday afternoon

So, the pipes were leaking again. Inside, this time. On Friday evening Tigger went down to get something from the freezer- by the way I am a huge fan of the freezer as it's the home of loads of yummy foods- and SPLASH! She stepped in water. Being a sensible Tigger she hailed the fearless Owl and told him that there was water on the floor of the basement. Apparently a pipe going into the water heater decided to develop a pinhole leak.

Now, a brief interlude about my thoughts on water: I like it as snow and in my water dish. I also like to sniff streams and ponds. I do NOT like it in the form of rain, and I DEFINITELY do NOT like it when it's on the floor of my house, even if it's in the basement where I do not go.

Back to the story. Owl and the Roo were going to a robot competition all day Saturday, so Owl turned the water heater mostly off so that the leak would essentially stop. This afternoon Owl replaced the pipe that had been leaking. It took him under an hour to do. He's a good plumber. If you want to hire him, for payment in milkbones, payable to me, just let me know.

I sent Tigger down into the basement to do a little photojournalism so that you all could see what a good plumber Owl is.

Good job on wearing your safety glasses, Owl!

I love my Owl!

Literature Quiz #2

Hi everyone!!!
Y'all are pretty good at this!!! Everyone who's entered so far has been correct!!! Daddy and Tiggy are tied, because Tiggy knew the names of both books, but Daddy took the time to explain the plots, give the dogs' names, and state the authors.
Here's another round.
#1
" What looked funniest was the Dogs. During the gallop they had not been at all out of breath, but now, as they swarmed and wriggled upwards, there was plenty of spluttering and sneezing among them; and that was because they would keep barking, and every time they barked, they got their mouths and noses full of water. "
#2.
Well now, Clancy was lyin' by the fire and he rose up in a flash and he gave a bit of a wuff, so he did."

Love,
Rosie

The no good, horrible, very BAD day!

It is only 1:15, but today is already not a good day. So far, I have had a seizure and cut my tongue while playing stick. I want to go hide under a rock and hope that nothing else bad happens today.

Guess the Literary Source

Here's the first post in my new quiz series. To kick it off, I'm giving you not one, but TWO quotes to guess!
Anyone who lives with me should be able to get this one. :)
...foolish and absurd or not, they all plucked up hope and courage to carry on, just because a faithful little dog... was still watching with unbroken faith for his master to come home.
Here's the next one:
He corrected me respectfully, giving it as his opinion that the undersigned was not a tiny little dog, but well above the average in muscular development.  In particular he drew attention to the animal's teeth.

Good luck, everyone!!!

I wonder which books those came from.....

HEY!

Gentle Readers, Take a look at the following forecast for the next 15 days. Blech! It's MARCH not May!

Signed,

Rosie the Disgruntled Dog who wants SNOW not 72 degree weather.

Spring Break= One Happy Bernese Mt. Dog

Well folks, the Tigger is off from that place that takes her away from me for many hours a day (translation:school) for a whole week! WOO HOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! I am doing my happy dance just thinking about it. Tigger and I are great pals, and I always say the more humans around the merrier. (The harder it is to keep them in line too, but still it's more fun when there are more of them.) Anyway, I have a bunch of plans of things to do with her: walks, trips to the park and post office, games of soccer, and more! Need to keep that girl out of mischief over her break, you know.

YAY!!!!!!!!!

Hauling leaves with Tigger this fall. We won't be doing any of that over Spring Break, however!
Love,
Rosie!!!!!!!!!!!

I Regret to Inform You...

It is with much sadness that I find myself having to announce the death of a dear friend of mine. My charming, sweet, and debonaire Golden Retriever neighbor Cody died the other day at the age of 12.
He was my first doggie friend, and he was loved by all who knew him. Roo credits him with getting her over her fear of dogs. I met himwhen I was a wee pup, and he was always very kind to me.
He was always happy and loving, even when deaf, lame and  barely  able to breathe. He loved his family, his food, and playing with tennis balls.

My most sincere condolences to his family.

CORRECTION! and a new CONTEST!!!!

You may have noticed the new poll in the sidebar.  The last option should say "Options 1,2, and 4" NOT the first 3 options. Roo apologizes for the error. I told her she'd BETTER be sorry, BUB.
Since the tootie poll/ contest is causing some derision, I thought I'd hold a new, less controversial competition: What do you think of the President and how he's doing his job. I jest, I jest. :)
Anyway, the new contest is called guess the literary source.  I plan on doing a series of posts, each featuring a quote about dogs. The first person to correctly name the source will receive a 26 dollar gift certificate to the shameless commerce division at car talk.com- oh, sorry. I got distracted. The prizes are to be determined. ;)

I am very literary.

Phew!

Me and my family don't like it when we're trendy. Or treyndee to use a, well, trendyee spelling. So, we were sort of upset when a couple of years ago we found out that Rosie is a popular dog name. (I mean it is the best dog name, but still...) Well, according to this article, Rosie is not one of the top 10 dog names. Yay!

We Need a New Plumber

So a few weeks ago I left Daddy a note that read "Dear Daddy, Please call a plumber. The pipes in the sky are leaking. Love, Rosie" Daddy claims never to have called a plumber, but whatever he did worked because it did stop raining. However, clearly the plumber didn't do a good job because lo and behold, there is water falling from the sky again! I do not like the rain.

This is from back in August when I was waiting for Hurricane Irene to roll in. The pipers were quite leaky this summer! Note how green everything behind me is even at the tail end of August!

Me. During Hurricane Irene. I was quite wet. My hurricane adventures are chronicled in the August 2011 archives.

Earplugs, please.

Dear SPCA,
I would greatly appreciate it if you would send me a pair of earplugs. You see, I have three darling human sisters. The oldest one is married and lives in France, but she doesn't come into this complaint. The other two still live at home, and they sometimes start singing together. The result is painful in the extreme.
For example, the other night they were making up new words to Can't Help Falling In Love With You.  They started out by competing with each other, because they both had different ideas about where it should go. Then, Roo realized it sounds like Plasir D'Amour in one place. So guess what she morphed into.  Unfortunately, her musical talent is limited to the violin and singing some stuff at church. In the mean time, Tigger continued to do sing her version of Can't Help Falling In Love With You. It reminded me of one of Roo's favorite Jack Benny quotes (use your best overly strong French accent when reading this:) ). "Gentlemen, you must understand. Zee violeen streengs, zey are made of cat- gut and the bow eez made of horsehair. Eef you want to know has M. Benny sounds, eemagine a cat beeing stepped on by a horse." Except that Roo was singing, not playing the violin.
Anyway, this dog would greatly appreciate it if you would send her earplugs, so she doesn't have to listen to this pain anymore.

Love,
Rosie Zidane (last name)
Note the pain in my eyes.
